If you're like a lot of folks, your dog's toenail trims can be anxiety-laden events, with more wrestling, blood and tears than the average WWF match!
Dogs naturally tend to be sensitive about having their paws handled as it is, but then having people grab and pull at them makes things a bit worse, and those metal tools don't make the situation any easier. Add to that your anxiety about your dog's behavior, and fear of injury (Will I nick the dog? Will the dog bite me?), and the whole thing goes down the tubes pretty quickly.
To avoid these scenes, many of you will engage in avoidance behaviors, letting the vet's office or groomer do the dirty deed, but at $15 - $25 a pop, these visits can get pretty pricey pretty quick. And still others, having gone both these routes, just give up altogether and hope that walking and running on the pavement will take care of things (and your dogs probably have the talons to prove it!).
But the reality is, if your dog's toenails are not maintained regularly and well, you can wind up with ripped, torn and broken nails, which become a bloody mess only the vet can fix. And if you're lucky enough to avoid that issue, the health of your dog's feet, wrists, ankles and other joints can suffer as your dog adjusts his gait to accommodate his growning claws. Not a pretty sight!
But we're here to help! Our 2-session program, Happy Feet!, is the antidote to everyone's toenail anxiety! Attendees of Happy Feet! will learn:
* the overall structure of the canine toenail (knowledge is power!), how they grow, and how to avoid the sensitive places * how to pick the clipper/trimmer you'll be most comfortable with * how to calmly subdue your dog for a pedicure to make it the most relaxing experience possible * how to teach your dog to happily surrender his digits for trimming * all the insider's tips for getting the job done well, calmly and effectively! * what to do in case of nicks and quicks!
For you busy folks, we've condensed this material into two easy sessions that will make you a pro, and keep your dog's feet pretty and healthy too!
